The November monthly bundles: Mictlāntēcutli & Arabian Knight

This month, we didn’t have it in our hearts to deny the God of the Dead his due as a monthly bundle, and we wanted to show off the Arabian Knight too… so instead of putting it to a vote for one or the other – we put both up for sale!

As some of you may know, Dusk till Dawn Studio has some Mexican members: the great designer Jason Rodriguez and Paris David Escandon. For Mexicans, one of the most important celebrations is the Day of the Dead, and we want to celebrate this special occasion with this exclusive set for Mythic Legions, inspired by Mictlāntēcutli the Mexica (Aztec) god of the dead. For the Mexica people, it was not important how you lived your life, it was how you died that mattered. Your place in the Mictlan depended on how you died, and the most special places were reserved for those who died in battle or in a sacrifice to the gods. Mictlāntēcutli together with queen Mictecacihuatl ruled over Mictlan and the threshold to this domain of the dead. This sculpt contains some Aztec symbols: a royal crown of feathers because he is the king of the Mictlan, a removable traditional ceremonial Mexica mask, sugar skull pauldrons (used on altars for the dead), and a shield with his emblem in the centre. He also has an alternative axolotl head, an endemic species of salamander from Mexico City. It used to be abundant in the region, and due to its ability to regenerate limbs and spend its entire life in a perpetual juvenile state, this little “monster” was associated with perpetual youth, existence outside of time, and the god Xolotl who was often depicted as having a god head. Xolotl was the dead person’s guide to the underworld, as well as the god of twins, deformities, monsters, misfortune, sickness. This is where the belief comes from that xoloitzcuintli dogs were their owner’s guides to the Mictlan, and therefore often found in Mexican graves with people. This set will be available all month long in our store.

Unnamed character contest

The Unnamed character contest is closed, and we are waiting for our judges to announce the winner.
Remember the Unnamed character writing contest? It is closed now and we are waiting for our judges to choose the winner. They are both judging separately, and we hope to have their verdicts by mid-November so we can send off that amazing prize! We’ll announce the lucky winner on our website blog (https://dusktilldawnstudio.com/our-blog/ ) and our Facebook page.
