Customizing for the first time with 3D printed resin parts
Thank you very much for your purchase of one of our resin prints. We are big MOTU and Mythic Legions fans, so we are excited to see how you will paint your piece and customize your figure.
Tips
Unpack carefully.
Once the parts you ordered have arrived, remove the packaging carefully. All resin prints are delicate and can be sharp.
Clean and prepare the pieces for painting.
Although we remove most of the supports used for printing, sometimes their residues remain and have to be removed carefully. Check the pieces very well from all sides to find all the supports. Then you can use tweezers or a file to remove them completely. At the end you can wash the pieces with a little soap and water. This helps remove impurities and makes painting easier.
Make sure you have everything on hand you need to create your new custom.
A common mistake when we receive new parts is to start painting immediately. Before painting, make sure to gather the pieces with which you will assemble the final figure. You also have to verify that the pieces fit with each other and, in turn, that they fit the original pieces you will use.
Check that the pauldrons can be embedded in the torso, that the lower leg plates fit in well with the upper leg and so on. File the resin pieces until they fit properly. If you notice any major problems, please contact us right away and we’ll be happy to help.
We recommend that you use a mask when you are filing resin pieces, preferably do it in an open space, and where you can control where the waste falls to be discarded. Don’t do this near places where people or pets eat.
Apply a paint base.
It is advisable to apply a paint primer before applying acrylic colors, this will help the paint adhere properly to the resin. There are many brands of primer, but we have had good results using automotive primer.
Paint your parts
Once you’ve applied the primer, it’s time to start painting! There are many different techniques and types of painting. Acrylic paint is most commonly used. We recommend looking for tutorials online since there is a lot of information on the subject and many artists share their secrets online.
Once you’ve finished painting your parts, it’s important to apply a sealant so the paint stays in place and you can handle your new custom.
Designers and sculptors work hard so that the pieces fit as well as possible in the figures for which they were designed. However it is important to understand that the printed parts are in no way a substitute for the original parts. To make the pieces fit better and stay in place with each other you can use blue tack.
Finally, the pieces that we print to create customs are made exclusively for display, they are not suitable for use as toys. All resin pieces are toxic if ingested so they are not suitable for young children, pets, or as decoration in aquariums and terrariums.
We hope you enjoy creating customs as much as we do. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us through our social media or website contact form.
